Modern Family
Ah, that's better. This will be Modern Family's second season , and you may or may not have heard that it won the Emmy this year for best comedy, uh, show. But since the Emmy's are largely horseshit, we won't worry too much about that. Suffice to say, this show is generally really funny. I have to admit that, at times, the overly saccharine endings of many of the episodes-where people learn lessons and what not-used to rub me the wrong way. Sometimes it seems that things are wrapped up too neatly. But this show is able to warm this cynical heart, because, for the most part it is really funny. I also think the whole "documentary" conceit of the show doesn't really work either, but I guess without that they wouldn't have people talking to the camera in "interviews". The cast is good, Ty Burrell as the goofy head of one of the families is a particular favorite for me. Overall, despite some minor caveats, it is really well written, and I will say it again, funny.
So are you totally done with "The Simpsons"? I started watching it again about two years ago and while it's nowhere near as good as it was in its heyday, I still get a kick out of it and will continue to watch it this season. I also would say that "The Daily Show" and "Colbert Report" are must watches for me. I know they're not the same as all these other series, but they're both so consistently good it's ridiculous and worth a mention.
ReplyDeleteOh, and I ordered HBO today so I can join in on some of these other shows. Hell, just getting to see Bill Maher once a week is worth it.

I guess I am, which is sad. "The Simpsons" used to be appointment television for me. But it had a good ten years or so where it was the best show on television, so thats a pretty good record. And, you know, all-time classic status, of course.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I guess I should add: always "The Daily Show", "Colbert", and I am so happy "Bill Maher" is back. And "Curb Your Enthusiasm" is a good one too.
